The Pony Republic of Hippostania is a massive, safe nation, ruled by high chancellor Lyra with an even hand, and notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 4.165 billion are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Education, and Defence. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Waverley. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 47%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Gambling, and Tourism industries.

Nudity is frowned upon, shanty towns are forming in the suburbs of major cities, travellers are often forcibly evicted by torch-bearing mobs, and citizens are bombarded with advertising from their compulsory minature radios. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Hippostania's national animal is the hippo, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Hippostanian Dollar.

Hippostania is ranked 2nd in Pony Lands and 2,016th in the world for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring 9 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
