The Democratic States of Helonica is a huge, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its museums and concert halls. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 715 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, the Environment, and Social Equality. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Othos. The average income tax rate is 82%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Inheritance tax has recently been abolished, the nation's diplomatic missives are now delivered via sniper rifle, commercial jingles have been ham-handedly forced into world renowned symphonies, and the 'kind of scrawny' 500 meter hurdle is a popular event. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Helonica's national animal is the Horse, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Drachma.
