The United Socialist Republic of Hayden Island is a colossal, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 9.676 billion are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whoever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, the Environment, and Education. The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

The government has started a campaign to crack down on road rage and encourage alternate means of commuting, the tenet of free speech is held dear, teenagers across the country are celebrating the defeat of a national curfew bill, and motorists must pay to enter inner-cities during peak hours. Crime is totally unknown. Hayden Island's national animal is the Raven, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Dollar.
