The Armed Libertariana of Gydonia is a colossal, economically powerful nation, ruled by The Directorate with a fair hand, and notable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 7.968 billion enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, corrupt individuals is mainly concerned with Defence, although Education and Law & Order are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Great Gydsburg. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Book Publishing and Arms Manufacturing.

Agricultural science is the most competitive subject at Gydonia's universities, murderers frequently escape punishment by claiming they were protecting their honour, police officers have been re-kitted with designer uniforms and gold plated handcuffs, and the government has enacted freedom of information. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is moderate. Gydonia's national animal is the Black Bear, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Bling.
