The Commonwealth of Gregroad is a colossal, socially progressive nation, ruled by Greg Marx with an even hand, and remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 5.018 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Law & Order, although Defence and Education are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Capital Wasteland. The average income tax rate is 55%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.

Members of Parliament are often found living in cardboard boxes, protesters are up in arms over new nuclear power stations, the government seizes all major gold finds, and pharmacies close down as medicinal drugs are sold freely by the government. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Gregroad's national animal is the sheep, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Biologism, and its currency is the Roader.

Gregroad is ranked 157th in Capitalist Paradise and 81,904th in the world for Most Compassionate Citizens, scoring -28 on the Kitten Softness Rating.
