The Empire of Greater Alesia is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by John Smith with an even hand, and notable for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 2.345 billion are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Greater Alesia City. The average income tax rate is 95%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Woodchip Exports, and Uranium Mining industries.

Those found guilty of illicit affairs are jailed, torture is illegal, only toddlers and the elderly watch television before 23:00, and unstable couples are known to break up over which one gets parental leave. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Greater Alesia's national animal is the Eagle, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Credit.
