The Craplands of Gobrins is a gargantuan, economically powerful nation, notable for its unlimited-speed roads. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 19.21 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

The average income tax rate is 67%, and even higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Uranium Mining.

Young children are regularly seen wagering pocket money at blackjack tables, the alarmingly racist TV show 'Bigtopians Say the Darndest Things' is a hit, "The Daily Sacrifice" is a routine segment of morning news shows, and senior citizens can usually be found doing heavy manual labour. Crime is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Gobrins's national animal is the space troll, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the russian gold.
