The Great Empire of Glatonia is a massive, cultured nation, ruled by Thomas Donovan with an iron fist, and renowned for its complete lack of prisons. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 1.303 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Social Equality. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Luderland. The average income tax rate is 67%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Automobile Manufacturing and Book Publishing.

The armed forces are locked in an expensive and bloody war abroad to stamp out possible terrorists, a niche industry catering to S&M enthusiasts has sprung up, citizens are regularly arrested in queues for 'loitering', and military geniuses responsible for brilliant campaigns are drummed out because they have close same-sex friends and an interest in interior design. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Glatonia's national animal is the Glatonian Spotted Bear, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, its national religion is Atheism, and its currency is the Doram.

Glatonia is ranked 394th in Europe and 89,658th in the world for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring -4 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
