The Skandistan of Gettersburg is a colossal, cultured nation, notable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 7.879 billion enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Defence, and the Environment. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Gettersburg's national animal is the Dog, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, its national religion is Kharijite, and its currency is the Pounds.

Gettersburg is ranked 64th in the Rejected Realms and 4,945th in the world for Most Eco-Friendly Governments, scoring 104 on the Dolphin Recycling Awareness Index.
