The Golden Republic of Garrington is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by 'Father' with an iron fist, and remarkable for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 1.69 billion are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Healthcare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Seminole City. The average income tax rate is 92%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Gambling industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Automobile Manufacturing.

The nation is famous for having one of the world's largest Grizzly Bear hunting institutions, private business has started paving paradises and putting up parking lots, the government has enacted freedom of information, and Grizzly Bears are considered a delicacy. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Garrington's national animal is the Grizzly Bear, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is Agnosticism, and its currency is the Price Card.
