The Free Land of Gaftonoshu is a gargantuan, cultured nation, ruled by Leader with an iron fist, and remarkable for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 10.151 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Healthcare, Law & Order, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Gaftonoshu City. The average income tax rate is 12%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Beef-Based Agriculture industry, followed by Information Technology and Uranium Mining.

Badminton was recently banned due to 'unacceptable violence' inherent to the game, almost half of the child population live rough on the streets, suppression of pro-democracy protests is a daily occurrence, and prosecutors routinely call transplant doctors as 'expert witnesses' in burglary cases. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Gaftonoshu's national animal is the Human, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is Freedom, and its currency is the Calories.

Gaftonoshu is ranked 115th in the Rejected Realms and 10,781st in the world for Most Influential, scoring 35 on the Soft Power Disbursement Rating.
