The Grand Duchy of Freemanton is a colossal, cultured nation, ruled by Grand Duke George II with an even hand, and remarkable for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 5.872 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Defence, and the Environment. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Großstadt Freemanton. The average income tax rate is 77%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Tourism industry.

Crime suspects are forced to submit to blood testing, euthanasia is legal, almost half of the child population live rough on the streets, and an increasing percentage of the population's youth have homosexual parents. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown. Freemanton's national animal is the grizzly bear, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is Unitarian Universalism, and its currency is the Grand.
