The Glorious Republic of Francaden is a colossal, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by el Comandante with an even hand, and renowned for its anti-smoking policies. Its compassionate population of 5.942 billion are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of the Environment, Education, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Francadena. The average income tax rate is 99%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Francaden-made cars tend to catch fire in people's driveways, drunk drivers are sentenced to death, racial and religious segregation has become rife as the various groups are loath to mingle, and citizens are permitted to carry concealed handguns. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Francaden's national animal is the tiger, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, its national religion is Roman Catholicism, and its currency is the franc.
