The Allied States of Filafia is a gargantuan, safe nation, ruled by Richard Steele with a fair hand, and remarkable for its restrictive gun laws. The compassionate, intelligent population of 12.702 billion Filafians love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and Social Equality. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Cania. The average income tax rate is 80%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.

An increasing percentage of the population's youth have homosexual parents, the recently unemployed can often be seen at the local homeless shelter, voting is voluntary, and religious organizations are being forced to leave the country or pay income taxes like everybody else. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Filafia's national animal is the corsac, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Lucre.

Filafia is ranked 14th in Balder and 826th in the world for Best Weather, with 495 Metres of Sunlight Above Expected.
