The Free Land of FICOCLE is a huge, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by Turtlén with an even hand, and remarkable for its keen interest in outer space. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 755 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The medium-sized government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Religion & Spirituality, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Cervicivitas. The average income tax rate is 12%, but much higher for the wealthy. A nonexistent private sector is dominated by the Soda Sales industry.

Unstable couples are known to break up over which one gets parental leave, televangelists flaunt their expensive cars when they attend charity events, Turtlén has just been declared ruler of FICOCLE in an international press conference, and citizens are expected to be proficient in at least five languages. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. FICOCLE's national animal is the Deer, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Sweet Salt.
