The Federal Republic of Fayt is a huge, safe nation, ruled by president fayt leingod with an iron fist, and notable for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 885 million are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and the Environment. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of The Spire. The average income tax rate is 55%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Trout Farming and Arms Manufacturing.

Loans are available for students from poor families, senior citizens can usually be found doing heavy manual labour, morning coffees are no longer the same since the disappearance of newspapers, and suppression of pro-democracy protests is a daily occurrence. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Fayt's national animal is the wolf, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the credit.
