The Free Kingdom of Falcania is a gargantuan, socially progressive nation, ruled by King Falcon III with an even hand, and remarkable for its irreverence towards religion. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 18.694 billion enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, liberal, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Defence, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of New Shirley. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Automobile Manufacturing, and Uranium Mining industries.

Fur coats have become the latest fashion trend, Falcon is one of the most popular forenames in Falcania, crowds of flag-burning protesters tend to accidentally become crowds of burning protesters, and employers may fire workers without giving any reason. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling. Falcania's national animal is the Falcon, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the decimalised Talon.
