The Dictatorial Republic of Estainia is a colossal, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by Generalissimo Dimitrian Alyosha Yakovlev with an iron fist, and notable for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 5.657 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Novaya Muscovy. The average income tax rate is 82%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Tourism industry, followed by Book Publishing and Soda Sales.

A large-scale revitalization of the education system is underway, the armed forces are locked in an expensive and bloody war abroad to stamp out possible terrorists, the fire protection service is wholly government-funded, and euthanasia is legal. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Estainia's national animal is the Falcon, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is Luciellanism, and its currency is the Crown.

Estainia is ranked 24th in Rostil and 79,883rd in the world for Most Compassionate Citizens, scoring -23 on the Kitten Softness Rating.
