The Dictatorial Republic of Estainia is a colossal, safe nation, ruled by Generalissimo Dimitrian Alyosha Yakovlev with an iron fist, and remarkable for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 6.261 billion are proud of their wide-ranging civil freedoms, and those who aren't tend to be dragged off the streets by men in dark suits and hustled into cars with tinted windows.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Novaya Muscovy. The average income tax rate is 86%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Tourism industry, followed by Book Publishing and Uranium Mining.

An increasing percentage of the population's youth have homosexual parents, the government seizes the property of the recently deceased, traveller camps regularly block five-lane superhighways, and the sound of wooden legs echo throughout Estainia after the recent introduction of the Foot Tax. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Estainia's national animal is the Falcon, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is Luciellanism, and its currency is the Crown.
