The Grand Imperial Mattyness of Emperor Matthuis is a gargantuan, safe nation, ruled by His Imperial Mattyness with a fair hand, and renowned for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 18.077 billion are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Defence, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Evanesia. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 33%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining, Automobile Manufacturing, and Arms Manufacturing industries.

Record sales of 'child-whacking sticks' have been reported, euthanasia is legal, several citizens have complained about scientists abducting their pets for experimentation, and urban high-volume mailers now receive their mail via chauffeur-driven limousines. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Emperor Matthuis's national animal is the Eagle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Methodism, and its currency is the Franco-Quilly.

Emperor Matthuis is ranked 2nd in The North Pacific and 29th in the world for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring 32 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
