The Republic of Elsh is a colossal, safe nation, ruled by Andre Maia with an even hand, and notable for its punitive income tax rates. Its compassionate population of 8.141 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Education, and Defence. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Nova. The average income tax rate is 63%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

The tenet of free speech is held dear, the welfare administration's new sweeping authority has forced the poor and needy to shop from pre-approved grocery lists, citizens who leave the country are officially classed as traitors, and it is illegal for police officers to carry out searches due to strict privacy laws. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Elsh's national animal is the bison, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the bezant.

Elsh is ranked 109th in Portugal and 117,553rd in the world for Most Extreme, scoring 7 on the Paul-Nader Subjective Decentrality Index.
