OverviewPeopleGovernmentEconomyTrendAnalysis

The Republic of Elsh is a gargantuan, safe nation, ruled by Andre Maia with a fair hand, and notable for its hatred of cheese. The compassionate, intelligent population of 11.061 billion Elshians enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Education, and Defence. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Nova. The average income tax rate is 56%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

All major public areas are watched by police surveillance cameras, the government regularly hires contractors to construct high rise apartments, every product goes through extensive safety-testing by the government, and rag-wearing teachers are often mistaken for homeless people. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Elsh's national animal is the bison, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the bezant.

Elsh is ranked 87th in Portugal and 107,792nd in the world for Largest Welfare Programs, scoring -36 on the Safety Net Mesh Density Rating.
