The Grand State of Elliston is a gargantuan, economically powerful nation, ruled by Prime Minister of Elliston with an even hand, and remarkable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 22.303 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded individuals is mainly concerned with Commerce, although Education and Law & Order are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Elliston Square. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Uranium Mining, and Book Publishing industries.

Citizens are enjoying a recent large cut in taxes, all tariffs have been abolished, teams of painters are converting road signs from horse lengths to kilometers, and only 'organics' are permitted to be citizens. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Elliston's national animal is the deer, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Presbyterian, and its currency is the dollar.

Elliston is ranked 143rd in Ionia and 72,344th in the world for Most Income Equality, scoring 100 on the Marx-Engels Emancipation Scale.
