The Kingdom of El gnome is a huge, safe nation, ruled by el gnome the great with an iron fist, and notable for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 923 million are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Religion & Spirituality. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of deamon city. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 84%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

Meat is a luxury afforded only to the wealthy, the country is preparing for war, El gnome's leader goes out to lunch surrounded by large men in dark glasses, and school uniforms are compulsory. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. El gnome's national animal is the gnome, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the gnome.
