It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and Social Equality. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Under the Couch. The average income tax rate is 100%. A nonexistent private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.

Space research funding has hit a recent high while several military bases are being closed down, the government has begun selling heroin and ecstasy to help fund its projects, the nation has welcomed its expats back with open arms, and the government pours millions of livers into rehabilitation programs annually. Crime is totally unknown. Eist's national animal is the goat, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the liver.
