The Free Land of Edland is a huge, cultured nation, ruled by that person over there with an even hand, and notable for its ban on automobiles. Its compassionate population of 827 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Equality, and Healthcare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of the place whose name I've forgotten. The average income tax rate is 84%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry.

People faint regularly as they get stuck with compulsory vaccinations, extreme political groups are outlawed, the nation has opened its arms to an influx of refugees, and Max Barry is this year's Miss Edland. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Edland's national animal is the Blobfish, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the of these.
