The Neverending Story of East Hylia is a gargantuan, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by MaoShan with an even hand, and remarkable for its ban on automobiles. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 12.91 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Social Equality and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of New Cahokia. The average income tax rate is 78%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

The nation's gigantic air force is both respected and feared, recruitment posters proclaim the army to be both fabulous and fashionable, every citizen must submit to DNA testing to be eliminated from police inquiries, and the government has cut its subsidies for all special interest groups. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. East Hylia's national animal is the octorok, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is Lainism, and its currency is the rupee.

East Hylia is ranked 98th in Empires of Earth and 98,851st in the world for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring -7 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
