The Socialist Land of East Cheshire is a massive, cultured nation, ruled by Prime Minister Johnson with an iron fist, and remarkable for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 1.03 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Education, and Defence. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Crewe. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 76%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Arms Manufacturing.

A large-scale revitalization of the education system is underway, society and government have been organized according to a feudal hierarchy, anti-government web sites are springing up, and gambling is outlawed. Crime is well under control, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. East Cheshire's national animal is the Yokai, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Ruble Sterling.

East Cheshire is ranked 176th in Europe and 36,224th in the world for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring 2 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
