The Scorched Barrenness of Dustistan is a colossal, cultured nation, ruled by Harry Butler with an even hand, and notable for its unlimited-speed roads. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5.623 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Education, Commerce, and Public Transport. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of The Oasis of No Issa. The average income tax rate is 31%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Tourism and Book Publishing.

Bizarre-looking creatures called 'dead parrotdogs' dominate wildlife preserves, citizens must have a license to operate a computer, the nation has opened its arms to an influx of refugees, and the poor are quarantined in the inner cities to prevent criminals from entering the suburbs. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a problem. Dustistan's national animal is the dead parrot, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is Calvinball, and its currency is the parched rock.

Dustistan is ranked 6th in NationStates and 3,656th in the world for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring 7 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
