The International Spydom of Drasnia is a huge, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 610 million enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, liberal individuals is mainly concerned with Defence, although Commerce and Law & Order are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Boktor. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, and Beef-Based Agriculture industries.

The "Underwear of Women in Power" issue of The Boktor Times is sold out, internet service is too costly for normal people to purchase, eight year-olds can be seen lighting up in public areas, and unemployment is through the roof after the government enacted living wage laws. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling. Drasnia's national animal is the Fenling, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Half-Crown.
