The Armed Republic of Drakkengard is a colossal, safe nation, ruled by Heinrich von Drakken with an even hand, and notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 9.41 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Defence, with areas such as Social Equality and the Environment receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Imperia. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 24%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Information Technology and Uranium Mining.

Teenagers stay out into the wee hours of the morning "stargazing", muscular women are banned from competing in sporting competitions, urban high-volume mailers now receive their mail via chauffeur-driven limousines, and Drakkengard-made cars tend to catch fire in people's driveways. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Drakkengard's national animal is the Dragon, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Gald.
