The Allied States of Domus Stella is a huge, socially progressive nation, notable for its keen interest in outer space. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 671 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Line Ark. The average income tax rate is 55%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining, Door-to-door Insurance Sales, and Information Technology industries.

Domus Stella's leader goes out to lunch surrounded by large men in dark glasses, teams of painters are converting road signs from horse lengths to kilometers, roads are often attended by round-the-clock construction crews, and Red Cross demand for body bags are rising while sutures are decreasing. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Domus Stella's national animal is the Stellar Hawk, and its currency is the Stellan Credit.
