Overview • PeopleGovernmentEconomyTrendAnalysis

The Armed Republic of DLZ is a huge, cultured nation, renowned for its keen interest in outer space. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 574 million are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whoever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Education, although Social Welfare and the Environment are on the agenda. The average income tax rate is 67%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Max Barry is this year's Miss DLZ, political parties are banned from advertising and receiving private donations, toddlers are wielding machine guns in the name of national defense, and the government pours millions of TV on the Radios into rehabilitation programs annually. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a problem, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. DLZ's national animal is the Wolf Like Me, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the TV on the Radio.

DLZ is ranked 3rd in wHORecore and 96,338th in the world for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring -6 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
