The Republic of Dionn is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Leader with an even hand, and renowned for its national health service. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 2.169 billion are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Healthcare, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Olympia. The average income tax rate is 82%, and even higher for the wealthy. A substantial private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.

Councils up and down the country wrangle over legal matters, every product goes through extensive safety-testing by the government, Rupert Bear is considered to be the most risqué TV programme in Dionn, and the DBI Channel Tunnel project is plagued by delays. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Dionn's national animal is the Jaguar, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Dion.
