The People's Republic of Dieselspeed is a colossal, socially progressive nation, ruled by Commissar Diesel with an iron fist, and renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 5.68 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Moscow. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 28%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

Homeless people are frequently charged with trespassing on public property, much of Dieselspeed's computer network is controlled by a rampant artificial intelligence, anti-government web sites are springing up, and Dieselspeed-made cars tend to catch fire in people's driveways. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Dieselspeed's national animal is the bear, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Stalinism, and its currency is the ruble.

Dieselspeed is ranked 543rd in Europe and 94,259th in the world for Most Compassionate Citizens, scoring -274 on the Kitten Softness Rating.
