The People's Republic of Dieselspeed is a colossal, economically powerful nation, ruled by Commissar Diesel with an iron fist, and renowned for its anti-smoking policies. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 6.304 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Moscow. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 32%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

The government has cut its subsidies for all special interest groups, vanity is considered the eighth cardinal virtue, businesses often fire workers in favour of cheaper automatic systems, and politicians are to be found scavenging bins at night to supplement their income. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Dieselspeed's national animal is the bear, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Stalinism, and its currency is the ruble.
