The Republic of Desperaclitus is a colossal, safe nation, remarkable for its museums and concert halls. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 8.986 billion hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, liberal individuals devotes most of its attentions to Education, with areas such as Social Equality and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. Income tax is unheard of. A healthy private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.

Members of Parliament operate under a PAYE scheme, tourists from around the world come to visit the country's famous rainforests, the tenet of free speech is held dear, and loans are available for students from poor families. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown. Desperaclitus's national animal is the Phoenix, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Virtute.

Desperaclitus is ranked 35th in libertarian and 128,569th in the world for Largest Welfare Programs, scoring -74 on the Safety Net Mesh Density Rating.
