The Democratic Republic of Della Sala is a massive, socially progressive nation, ruled by Augustus Maximus with a fair hand, and notable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 2.464 billion are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Defence, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Kandor. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 34%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing, Arms Manufacturing, and Book Publishing industries.

DDT is used widely to repel disease-carrying insects, most governmental positions are filled by zealous nationalists, all telephone traffic is monitored for 'national security reasons', and punitive tariffs protect local industry. Crime is a problem. Della Sala's national animal is the Lion, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Dollar.

Della Sala is ranked 4,811th in The North Pacific and 114,775th in the world for Most Income Equality, scoring 45 on the Marx-Engels Emancipation Scale.
