The Cyborg Overlords of Degasia is a massive, safe nation, ruled by Leader with an even hand, and remarkable for its ban on automobiles. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 1.4 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Defence, although Law & Order and Healthcare are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Central. The average income tax rate is 90%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

Marketing departments of corporate giants compete to sponsor little league teams, the country has been 'going shopping' by annexing nearby nations for their resources, cars are banned, and politicians are often seen with soldiers pointing guns at their heads. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Degasia's national animal is the Charizard, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Air.

Degasia is ranked 2,798th in Lazarus and 86,434th in the world for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring -3 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
