The Free Land of Deflinica is a huge, genial nation, ruled by Leader with a fair hand, and remarkable for its strong anti-business politics. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 751 million love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Healthcare, and the Environment. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Jaflin. The average income tax rate is 87%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

The government is spending millions on alternative clean-burning fuels, the government seeks peaceful forum with terrorists, college students make ends meet by selling their kidneys, and Leader has just been declared ruler of Deflinica in an international press conference. Crime is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Deflinica's national animal is the Hog-Nosed Bat, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the None.

Deflinica is ranked 4,117th in the West Pacific and 97,222nd in the world for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring -6 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
