The Soccer-Mad Fiefdom of Crystal Palace is a massive, economically powerful nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 2.535 billion are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The medium-sized, pro-business government juggles the competing demands of Education, Religion & Spirituality, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Selhurst. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 16%. A robust private sector is led by the Uranium Mining industry, followed by Information Technology and Cheese Exports.

Crystal Palace has designated Selhurst as its capital city, elections have become procedural nightmares due to voters persistently rejecting candidates, cyber-crime and tin-foil hat sales are both increasing at record rates, and referenda can be called for any law at the request of at least one third of the voting population. Crime is a problem. Crystal Palace's national animal is the eagle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the gold talent.
