Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 1.715 billion enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Education, although the Environment and Social Equality are on the agenda. The average income tax rate is 14%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.

Graffiti graces every city's streets, the government seizes private property for the 'good of the people', record sales of 'child-whacking sticks' have been reported, and elevator music has been replaced by thrash metal played at maximum volume. Crime is relatively low. Corporations and Companies's national animal is the Golden Baal, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Electrum.
