The Poor Soul of Codilo is a huge, economically powerful nation, renowned for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 719 million are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

The large government is mainly concerned with Commerce, although Religion & Spirituality and Defence are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Dark waters. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 16%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Beef-Based Agriculture, Automobile Manufacturing, and Information Technology industries.

Almost all of Codilo's water is piped into the country from abroad for exorbitant prices, the poor are quarantined in the inner cities to prevent criminals from entering the suburbs, owning a tractor is widely regarded as an essential prerequisite to most government positions, and bloodthirsty zealots regularly participate in the Friday Night Stoning of Adulterers. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a serious problem. Codilo's national animal is the Illusion, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Ace.
