The Republic of Cassanos is a gargantuan, safe nation, ruled by President Cavendish with a fair hand, and remarkable for its anti-smoking policies. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 11.728 billion love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Education, although Social Welfare and Healthcare are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Munstra. The average income tax rate is 95%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.

The newspaper industry is subsidised by the government in order to keep it afloat, the minority party is vilified for everything from fires to earthquakes, the wearing and manufacture of fur apparel is banned, and photographers can be found hiding behind the curtains in President Cavendish's bedroom. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Cassanos's national animal is the Black Adder, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Thaler.
