The Holy Empire of Cartiga is a colossal, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by The Emperor with an iron fist, and remarkable for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 6.309 billion are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Defence, although Law & Order and Religion & Spirituality are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Rome. The average income tax rate is 78%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

The government has cut taxes in the face of widespread tax evasion, the country has been 'going shopping' by annexing nearby nations for their resources, there is now a private sector based on doomsday devices (Cartiga has found 2 easter eggs), and it is a crime to offend someone's religious beliefs. Crime is moderate. Cartiga's national animal is the Griffin, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is Roman Catholicism, and its currency is the florin.

Cartiga is ranked 116th in The Land of Kings and Emperors and 25,423rd in the world for Healthiest Citizens, with 6 Standard Bananas Ingested per capita per day.
