The Free Market Paradise of Carlitonia is a colossal, economically powerful nation, ruled by President Galt with an even hand, and remarkable for its unlimited-speed roads. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 6.396 billion enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded individuals is mainly concerned with Education, although Law & Order and Healthcare are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Carloville. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Book Publishing and Tourism.

A niche industry catering to S&M enthusiasts has sprung up, Members of Parliament operate under a PAYE scheme, Carlitonia is building an army to protect its overseas territories, and urban high-volume mailers now receive their mail via chauffeur-driven limousines. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling. Carlitonia's national animal is the Tiger, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Carlitonian Dollar.
