The Empire of Canini is a colossal, cultured nation, ruled by Fuhrer Fenir with an iron fist, and remarkable for its parental licensing program. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 5.556 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Brakar. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 86%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining, Arms Manufacturing, and Tourism industries.

The government has begun selling heroin and ecstasy to help fund its projects, torture is commonly used to extract information from suspected criminals, conductors wield diamond-encrusted batons to fit in with their freshly gilded surroundings, and the new 'Things We Stole From Other Countries' exhibition at the National Museum of Antiquities is a hit. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Canini's national animal is the miacid, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Caninian Vul.
