The Republic of Caixote is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Ricardo Lion Heart with an even hand, and remarkable for its museums and concert halls. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 4.806 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, the Environment, and Social Welfare. The average income tax rate is 67%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Citizens are allowed to rise or fall based on their own merits, flash floods that dams could have controlled regularly ravage small towns in mountain valleys, space research funding has hit a recent high while several military bases are being closed down, and large sections of Caixote have been named national reserves to protect the native tribes living there. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Caixote's national animal is the sardines, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Euro.
