The Enlightened Corporatocracy of Caelestius is a colossal, cultured nation, ruled by CEO Rex Mundi with a fair hand, and renowned for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 7.414 billion are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, corrupt, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Education, Commerce, and Healthcare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Ascension. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Book Publishing industry, followed by Information Technology and Gambling.

Euthanasia is legal, nude art is becoming wildly popular, teams of painters are converting road signs from horse lengths to kilometers, and the nanny industry has had a boom after maternity leave was recently banned. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Caelestius's national animal is the Lion, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is Capitalism, and its currency is the Mana.

Caelestius is ranked 26th in Capitalist Paradise and 984th in the world for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring 12 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
