The Free Land of Butea is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Leader with an even hand, and remarkable for its anti-smoking policies. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 4.326 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Commerce, although Law & Order and Education are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Braila City. The average income tax rate is 53%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Tourism industry, followed by Gambling and Automobile Manufacturing.

Euthanasia is legal, urban high-volume mailers now receive their mail via chauffeur-driven limousines, small businesses are gobbled up almost daily by corporate giants, and police conduct weekly raids looking for contraband cheeseburgers. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Butea's national animal is the LEU, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the RON.
