The Democratic Republic of Bongzealand is a huge, socially progressive nation, notable for its punitive income tax rates. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 591 million love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and Social Equality. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Bongington. The average income tax rate is 75%, and even higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Book Publishing.

The sound of wooden legs echo throughout Bongzealand after the recent introduction of the Foot Tax, the government has ordered a moratorium on referenda, cars are banned, and badminton was recently banned due to 'unacceptable violence' inherent to the game. Crime is totally unknown. Bongzealand's national animal is the Sloth, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Nug.
