Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 8.63 billion enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, liberal, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Defence, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Newport Beach. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Uranium Mining, and Retail industries.

Radio shows frequently feature people denouncing religion, re-education centers are being added to most prisons, Bluth Corporation is notorious for its citizens' infidelity, and violently opinionated speakers can be heard preaching their hateful views on every street corner. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Bluth Corporation's national animal is the stair car, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the segway.
