The Republic of Blau Stein is a colossal, cultured nation, ruled by Ron Paul with a fair hand, and renowned for its national health service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5.087 billion live in a state of perpetual fear, as a complete breakdown of social order has led to the rise of order through biker gangs.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Education, Defence, and Commerce. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Book Publishing and Uranium Mining.

The government has cut its subsidies for all special interest groups, waste is frequently shipped to other countries, the Blau Stein Enquirer offers weekly cash prizes for 'most blasphemous song, story, or cartoon', and volunteers are signing up to take arms against an incursion of flesh-eating zombies (Blau Stein has found 3 easter eggs). Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling. Blau Stein's national animal is the sea otter, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Gold Dollar.

Blau Stein is ranked 245th in Capitalist Paradise and 93,292nd in the world for Most Compassionate Citizens, scoring -174 on the Kitten Softness Rating.
